Village: Dahemi, Ta : Borsad, Dist : Anand
From 01-Jan-2017 to 07-Jan-2017

The NSS Unit organized ANNUAL NSS CAMP at Dahemi village (Ta: Borsad and Dist: Anand) from 01.01.17 to 07.01.17 which is nearly 12 kms away from Vallabh Vidyanagar. Total 175 (One Hundred Seventy Five) students participated in this camp. Mentioned below is the detailed record of the activities carried out during this camp.

Day - 1 : 01-01-2017
  • The NSS volunteers, along with three NSS Programme Officers and four faculty members, moved to Dahemi village at 2 pm. Between 4 pm and 6 pm the volunteers visited different parts of the village and invited villagers to attend the inaugural function to be organized at 11 am on the next day.

  • After dinner a meeting was conducted to orient students about the activities to be conducted during the camp. The NSS volunteers were divided into groups and a group leader was selected for each group.

Day - 2 : 02-01-2017
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 7.30 am to 8 am.

  2. The Inaugural Function was organized in Dahemi Primary School at 10.30 am. The function started with University Song and NSS Song. Prof. S. G. Patel-Hon. Secretary Charutar Vidya Mandal presided over the function. Dr. Bimal Patel- Hon. Vice-chancellor of Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar and Dr. Jagrutiben Suvera- NSS Coordinator of S. P. University, V. V. Nagar were invited as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Dr. Basudeb Bakshi- Principal of the college, Mr. Parshottamdas Patel- Sarpanch of the village, Mr. Jitendrbhai Pandya- Principal of Dahemi High School, Mr. Jashbhai Patel and many villagers were also present in the function.

  3. At 3.30 pm a Rally was organized with slogans on the subject ‘Addiction Eradication’. The rally passed through almost all the streets of the village. Teachers and students visited the slum area where people seemed to have various addictions. The volunteers explained to people how addictions can be harmful to them. The villagers were also informed about the Free Medical Check-up Camp and Eye Check-up camp to be organized by the NSS unit.

  4. At 7 pm ‘Sky Gazing’ programme was organized in association with Community Science Centre, V. V. Nagar. Dr. Brijmohan Thakur- Director of C. C. Patel Community Science Centre, Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar gave information about planets, comet, galaxy etc. with the help of telescopes.

  5. After dinner a brainstorming session was organized. Also, the volunteers were informed about the planned activities of the next day and assigned various duties.

Day - 3 : 03-01-2017
  1. From 7 am to 7.45 am a session of bird-watching was organized near a pond of the village wherein Dr. Rajiv Bhatti, Faculty in V.P. and R.P.T.P. Science College, V. V. Nagar and Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi-Professor in P. G. Department of Bio-Science, V. V. Nagar demonstrated some techniques for bird-watching. Students enjoyed the session very much.

  2. From 8 am to 8.30 am a session of meditation was conducted from 8 am to 8.45 am. Dr. Kashyap Bhatt – the Academic Coordinator at Pramukh Swami Medical College, Karamsad served as an expert of the meditation session.

  3. Between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm a doctor from Sankra Eye Hospital, Mogar checked 101 patients suffering from symptoms of cataract out of whom 69 patients were asked to report on 05-01-17 for further screening.

  4. Some volunteers were provided forms for survey on availability of basic facilities to the villagers like clean drinking water, house, toilets, electricity, bank account, ADHAR CARD, etc. Rests of the volunteers were assigned the duty of making villagers aware of Digital Banking and Modes of Cashless Payment. In turn, the volunteers also got forms filled from the villagers as evidence of the training.

  5. Between 2 pm and 4 pm the volunteers organized Essay Writing Competition and Singing Competition for the students of primary and higher secondary schools of the village. The winners were awarded prizes on the spot.

  6. From 4.30 to 6.30 the volunteers had a Cricket match between senior and junior volunteers.

  7. After dinner, a programme of Bhajan was organized in the premises of Radha-Krishna Temple form 9 pm to 11.30 pm.

Day - 4 : 04-01-2017
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted by Yogacharya Shri Dushyant Modi from M. S. University of Baroda from 7.30 am to 8.30 am.

  2. A Free Medical Check-up Camp was organized from 10 am to 1 pm. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from Surajben Govindbhai Patel Ayurvedic Hospital, New Vallabh Vidyanagar examined more than one hundred and fourteen patients and medicines were given free of cost as per requirement. Some teams were assigned the duty to assist the medical staff.

  3. At the same time some volunteers were sent to the Radha-Krishna High School where they exhibited posters prepared by the volunteers on the theme of ‘HIV/AIDS Awareness.’

  4. After lunch some volunteers practiced for street play whereas some students had cricket match with the village boys from 3 pm to 5 pm. Simultaneously, some volunteers went to the Primary School of the village and organized ‘Painting Competition’. Winners were given Prizes on the spot.

  5. From 8.30 pm to 10 pm a workshop was organized wherein all the groups were assigned some tasks involving brainstorming exercises. Students found those exercises very interesting and helpful in analyzing their perspective towards life. The workshop ended with the street play which was to be performed on the next day.

Day - 5 : 05-01-2017
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 7.30 am to 8 am.

  2. Between 9 am and 1 pm a team of doctors from Sankra Eye Hospital, Mogar did thorough screening of 79 patients including the suspected patients. At last 32 patients were willing to get admitted to Sankra Eye Hospital for operation of cataract. One group of students helped the medical team throughout the screening session.

  3. Rest of the students visited a Primary School in a nearby village named Naman where the volunteers conducted drawing activity and played educational games in seven classes.

  4. Between 3 pm and 5.30 pm, the volunteers performed street play based on various themes namely ‘Female Foeticide’, ‘Girl Education’, ‘Addiction Eradication’ and ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’.

  5. Dr. Dhvani Sharma- a motivational speaker addressed the volunteers on various topics such ‘Role of NSS in Development of the Nation’, ‘Personality Development’ and various government schemes for youth from 7 pm to 8 pm.

  6. After dinner, cultural programmes were organized wherein some volunteers as well as village children performed dance and singing.

Day - 6 : 06-01-2017
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 7.30 am to 8 am.

  2. At 9 am students were taken to visit SHRIDARSHANAM - a unique initiative to promote organic farming by Swadhyay Parivar in a nearby village named Navli. The volunteers were oriented about Organic Farming by the administrator. The volunteers also visited Bhargava Ayurvedic Hospital and Panchkarma Centre in Dahemi village.

  3. At 5 pm ‘Mehndi Competition’ was organized for the village girls and women. Mrs. Rekhaben Shukla from Anandalaya School, Anand judged the competition and gave prizes.

  4. After dinner, programme of traditional Garba was organized. Village folk also accompanied NSS volunteers and enjoyed the Garba from 9 pm to 11.30 pm.

Day - 7 : 07-01-2017
  • The valedictory function of NSS camp started at 10.30 am at Swaminarayan Temple Hall. Dr. Basudeb Bakshi - the Principal, Mr. Arvindbhai Patel, Mr. Das, Mr. Jashbhai Patel and some other leading villagers were present on this occasion. Mr. Ranubha Gohil presented the report of activities organized during the camp. Dr. Yogesh Patel proposed the vote of thanks. He sincere thanked all the Principals and teachers of the village schools as well as villagers for all their support and cooperation.
