Village: Thamana, Ta : Borsad, Dist : Anand

The NSS Unit of the college organized the ANNUAL NSS CAMP at Thamana Village which is nearly 22 kms away from Vallabh Vidyanagar. The camp was held between 04.12.2011 and 10.12.2011. Total 200 (Two Hundred) students participated in this camp. Mentioned below is the detailed record of the activities carried out during this camp.

Day - 1 : 04-12-2011
  • The NSS students along with three NSS Programme Officers and four faculty members moved to Thamana village at about 3 pm. In the evening, a meeting was conducted to orient students about the activities to be conducted during the camp. The NSS volunteers were divided into groups and a group leader was selected for each group.

Day - 2 : 05-12-2011
  1. The Inaugural Function was organized at Jigna Marriage Hall in the village. After prayer the University Song of Sardar Patel University was sung by the students. Reverend Jashbhai Saheb, the founder of Anupam Mission Trust, Mogri inaugurated the camp. Dr. Gurusevak Singh- NSS Programme Coordinator of S. P. University, Dr. Basudeb Bakshi- Principal of NVPAS College, Dr. V. S. Patel- Ex- Vice Chancellor of S. P. University, Mr. Chandrakantbhai Patel- Sarpanch of Thamana village and many villagers also remained present on this occasion.

  2. At 5 pm a Silent Rally with 25 posters based on the subjects “Addiction Eradication” and “AIDS Awareness” started from Jigna Marriage Hall and passed through almost all the streets of Thamana village and took a halt at a slum area where people seemed to be surrounded by various addictions. NSS volunteers and a teacher, with the help of posters, explained people how addictions are harmful to them and made them take oath to stay away from addictions.

  3. Nearly at 9 pm a special programme named Bhajan Sandhya was organized at Zanda Chowk wherein a team of 25 devotees from Bechari Yuvak Mandal, Bechari enchanted the villagers with Bhajans.

Day - 3 : 06-12-2011
  1. A Free Medical Check-up Camp was organized between 10 am and 3 pm at Jigna Marriage Hall. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from Surajben Govindbhai Patel Ayurvedic Hospital, New Vallabh Vidyanagar examined nearly three hundred and medicines were given free of cost as per requirement.

  2. After dinner a workshop was organized wherein all NSS volunteers were divided in five large groups. They were assigned some tasks involving brainstorming exercises. Students found these exercises very interesting and helpful in analyzing their perspective towards life

Day - 4 : 07-12-2011
  1. Some teams of NSS Volunteers were sent to inform villagers about the Panch Kundi Gayatri Yagna whereas some teams were assigned duty of cleaning some streets of the village

  2. From 9 am to 12 noon, the yagna was conducted by a team of Gayatri Parivar, Anand District wherein all the NSS volunteers along with NSS Programme Officers participated

  3. At 1.30 pm Dr. Anil Jha, the well known cardiac surgeon from Nadiad delivered seminar on “Directions for the Youth in the Present Era”

  4. At 3.30 pm the unit left for a visit to Galteshwar and Dakor

  5. At 4.30 pm Dr. Isha Desai, Lecturer in Biosciences Department of the college interacted with girl students on the topic “Role of Women in development of Family”. Meanwhile, male students arranged a cricket tournament with the village boys

Day - 5 : 08-12-2011
  1. A Free Eye Check-up Camp was organized between 9 am and 1 pm at Patel Wadi, Gana. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from Eye Department of Shri Krishna Hospital, Karamsad examined more than one hundred and sixty cases were examined and medicines for three days were given free of cost. The doctors assured to operate seventeen villagers suffering from cataract.

  2. From 2 to 3.30 pm, Dr. Amrapali Merchant, Former Head of Department Sociology, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar addressed NSS volunteers and senior citizen club members of the village on the topic “Woman Empowerment”

  3. From 4 pm to 5 pm, Dr. Ravi Gandhi, a dentist made a power point presentation on dental care for the senior citizen club of the village.

  4. At 4 pm, 12 NSS volunteers were divided in six groups and sent to K. C. Patel High School, Thamana. They interacted with the students of Std. 8th, 9th, and 10th and played some educational games with the students

  5. After dinner, cultural programmes were organized wherein some performances of dance were followed by Traditional Garba. Village folk also accompanied NSS volunteers and enjoyed the programmes

Day - 6 : 09-12-2011
  1. At 9 am, Mr. Brarindra Patel, a member of Anupam Mission, Mogri addressed students on how to keep fit. He demonstrated some “Asanas” to the students.

  2. This lecture was followed by Blood Donation Camp organized with the help of A. D. Gorwala Blood Bank, Karamsad wherein 50 NSS Volunteers voluntarily donated blood.

  3. Simultaneously, some groups of students organized Poster and Slogan making Competition on the subject of “AIDS Awareness” at K. C. Patel High School, Thamana

Day - 7 : 10-12-2011
  • The valedictory function of NSS camp started at around 11 am in the community hall of Patel Wadi. The NSS Unit expressed sincere thanks to all the villagers of Gana village. The unit was especially thankful to Mr. Chandrakant Patel, Sarpanch of Thamana, and Shri Natubhai Patel for all their support and cooperation.
